September to June - The Gulf Islands
 

The Porpoise - Hudson Force 50 - Bil Garden Design-Pacific Encounters will customize your adventure to suit your needs. In the Spring, late Summer and Fall we offer weekend cruises amongst our beautiful Gulf Islands. Our home port is Sidney, B.C. just north of Victoria. From here we can be out and sailing towards the next set of islands in just a few minutes. Saltspring, Pender, Portland and Prevost Islands are all within an hour or two. Stop, row ashore and have a picnic or hike along trails or country roads. Enjoy a wonderful meal aboard and settle down in comfortable surroundings.

Example itineraries:

Central Coast Gulf Islands

-A possible itinerary around the local Gulf Islands may have the "Porpoise", our mothership, meeting you at the dock...(route and activities are dependent on weather conditions)

Day 1

    • Destination - Beaumont Marine Park
    • Distance to travel: 11 miles
    • Estimated travel time: 3 1/2 hours

10:30 am: Leave marina

After setting our sails we will pass the following points of interest:

Blue Heron Basin, Tsehum Harbour, Curtis Point, Page Passage, Fernie Island,

Toads Landing, Iroquois Passage and Gouge Island

We will sail or motor (depending on weather conditions) across Shute Passage past Portland Island. This Island is now a Provincial Marine Park with a colourful history. Next we will head off toward Moresby Island and across Swanson Channel towards North and South Pender Islands.

Lunch will be served along the way.

1 pm (approx): Arrive at Hope Bay

After docking, you can this wonderfully restored port of call.

3 pm: Set off toward Bedwell Harbour's Beaumont Marine Park (approximately 1 1/2 hour travelling time). After anchoring and more snacks, dinghies will transport guests to shore to explore the lovely beach, islet and forest areas.

5:30 - 6 pm: Return to the "Porpoise" for a celebration meal., to rest, relax and enjoy the evening.

Day 2

Morning: Depart Bedwell Harbour after a relaxing breakfast

      • Destination - Portland Island - and home
      • Distance to travel: 10 miles
      • Estimated travel time: 2 hours

On this route we will cross Swanson Channel and travel to Portland Island, a provincial Marine Park. Also known as Princess Margaret Island, this delightful landfall has hiking trails, beaches, meadows and a colourful history.

12:30 pm: Gourmet Lunch on board or picnic style.

2 pm: Set sail for a tour of the many local islands and islets and if time allows, some exploration onshore.

6:00 pm (or at sunset): Arrive at dock.

  • During your cruise in the Gulf Islands, we will see many species of birds and other wildlife. The scenery is highly picturesque and cameras, extra film and binoculars are highly recommended.
  • Your cruise includes a skippered charter sailboat, two kayaks, Inflatable dinghies, safety gear, all meals, snacks and non-alcholic beverages. Our menus feature delicious freshly baked goods and international menu which, with advanced notice, can be adapted to your personal dietary requirements.
